Facebook Default for Content is now set to Public (Everyone)

06.25.09 | No Comments SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Unless you specify on specific posts that you want them to remain private (i.e. your network, friends) Facebook will make your content available to EVERYONE on the INTERNET - this is an attempt to make your content as PUBLIC as possible…in competition with public sites like Twitter — BUT…Twitter only publicizes tweets (maximum of 140 characteres) - while Facebook makes your profile public…providing the public at large with a unique insight on your private life.

This is great for socialites, and people that really don’t mind their Facebook profiles out in the wild (’world wide web’) - but it’s bad for people that use Facebook as a private space on the web to interact, communicate, and share media with family and friends.

Let me know if you need help setting your privacy settings.

Leena Rao from TechCrunch gives us a great overview of the new settings, follow the story here.
